Who We Are
Shevet Achim
was founded in 1994 by followers of Jesus living in Jerusalem, with the
purpose of helping non-Israeli children receive lifesaving medical care
in Israel. We are registered in both Israel and the US as a non-profit
organization, and overseen by a board which includes Chuck Kopp, pastor
of the Narkis Street International Congregation in Jerusalem; David
Pileggi, director of Shoresh Study Tours in Jerusalem; and Jim Schutz,
local congregations liaison with the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem.

Martha Berg, Database and Hospitality Manager
Martha first came to Israel in 1992, studying at the Institute of Holy
Land Studies and later at Hebrew University. Martha oversees the
invitation of children to Israeli hospitals. Her husband Philip
directed our Jerusalem office until his death in January 2006. Martha
has five children: Asher, Adam, Nathan, Sara, and Anna. Contact her at:

Raneen Ghantous, Arabic Liason
Raneen
is an Arab Israeli from Kfar Yassif. She communicates with the patients
in Gaza and helps coordinate Gazan children receiving heart surgery and
medical care. She is studing at Hadassa Ein Kerem to become a nurse.

David Hartman, Supporter Services Coordinator
Originally from Colorado, the Hartman
family moved to the Middle East in 1999, locating in Aqaba, Jordan,
where they were involved in outreach to the local Arabic community.
Recently, they were invited to
join the Shevet Achim team in Jerusalem. David's current duties include
the transportation of Shevet patients from numerous locations to
Wolfson Medical Center near Tel Aviv, as well as Shevet facility and
vehicle maintenance. David & Judy have five children: Johanna,
Jeffrey, Elley, Luke and Lana. You may contact them

Dirk Kleinloh, Jordan Coordinator
The Kleinlohs came to Jordan from Germany in 2001and Dirk has been
serving with Shevet Achim since 2004. Dirk and his wife Manuela
coordinate the transfer of Jordanian and Iraqi children to Israel.

Jonathan Miles, International Coordinator
Jonathan
came to Israel in 1990 as a journalist, worked for several years with
new immigrants from the former Soviet Union, and helped establish
Shevet Achim (then Light to the Nations) in 1994. From 1996-2001 he and
his wife Michelle lived in the Gaza Strip with their children Renanah,
Rebekah, Josh, Elly, Ben, and baby Zack (born in Khan Yunis in
January 2000). They are now living in Colorado. Contact them through

Donna Petrel, US Coordinator

Donna heads our U.S. office. Her heart is for the passion and
compassion of God's love to bring people to reconciliation with God and
with each other, thus bringing down every wall of separation between
us. She helps Shevet Achim with correspondence and donations. Contact

Alex Pettett, Jerusalem Coordinator
Alex
first was introduced to the work of Shevet Achim in Gaza in 1998. He
and and his wife Jamie met in Jordan after Alex studied for an MA in
Jerusalem. He was a youth pastor in Haifa and in South Carolina for
seven years before assuming the position of Jerusalem Coordinator in
January 2007. Jamie is a Registered Nurse and is expecting their first

Bethany Slater, Special Projects and Admin Coordinator
Stephen and Bethany Slater came up to Jerusalem in the summer of
2006. Bethany has been serving with Shevet Achim since November
2006. Her husband is a Master's student at the Hebrew
University. She maintains the financial records for the Jerusalem
Office and coordinates special projects in donor relations.
