One Last Child From Gaza
Filed by

Late in February we received word that the Israeli authorities at the Erez crossing from Gaza into Israel would not be helping us transfer new children to Israel after March 1, until they can come to some new arrangements with the Palestinian Authority.

This resulted in the cancellation of eight children that week, but we pleaded on behalf of one last child who was invited out for life-saving surgery, Shahed from Gaza.  We were grateful that on the afternoon of the last travel day of the month, her permission came to travel out with her mother.

Wednesday Shahed had her surgery, and we found her recovering in the ICU.  We asked the doctor on duty how she was doing, and the reply was something like, “Knock on wood, so far everything looks good.”

Our name Shevet Achim is taken from the Hebrew of Psalm 133:  How good and how pleasant for
brothers to dwell together in unity... for there the LORD commanded the blessing--life forevermore.
