Recently I ran across the application I wrote to work at Shevet Achim, from May 2010. There isn’t a human alive who doesn’t feel sometimes embarrassed at hearing their own voice or reading their own writing. However, as I read my application, I had the rare experience of agreeing deeply with something I previously said. The question was about what I hope to accomplish during my time at Shevet Achim, and my answer was:
I wish to come to know what is meant by the saying, “God is love.”
This is my primary reflection from my time at Shevet Achim, and remains my primary goal. I have of course learned other things, seen stories unfold, fell in love with many children, reveled in the Jerusalem experience, etc. But I’ll begin and end right here: Love.
