Who We Are

Shevet Achim was founded in 1994 with the purpose of helping non-Israeli children receive lifesaving medical care in Israel. Our name is taken from the Hebrew of Psalm 133, which promises that unity between brothers leads to life; we believe this to be true of the troubled relationship between Isaac and Ishmael (Jews and Muslims) in the Middle East. To live this out we seek to "go and do likewise" as the Good Samaritan, who crossed lines of division to show that an enemy is in fact a neighbor also loved by God.

We work from the historic building in Jerusalem which housed the first children's hospital in the Middle East, and are registered in Israel as a non-profit organization. National affiliates of Shevet Achim are registered in the and

Long term staff
Many of our staff have heard the call to "Sell all that you have, give to the poor, and follow me."  Our goal as a community of service is to trust God to provide for our own basic needs. Friends can be part of this by giving staff support using the links below; please note the option of signing up for a monthly pledge.

Mary Dailey, Housemother

Mary first prayed in 1997 "Here I am, send me," worked for the Jerusalem School from 2002-2005, and in 2008 started her service with Shevet Achim. She believes that the years she lived in fear in an abusive marriage help her to care for children and their escorts who come to Israel with much fear.

Goran, Iraq Liaison

Goran is a Muslim-background believer from Northern Iraq. He and his wife, Rebecca, are currently in the US and expecting their first baby.  He has helped send Iraqi children to Israel for heart surgeries since 2006. This is fulfillment of a dream for him and he realizes that God made this opportunity possible. Goran and Rebecca are available for speaking opportunities while in the US.

Donna Petrel, Family Care Coordinator
Donna experienced a series of heart-shattering circumstances in the mid-1990s which God used to begin teaching her about His heart for reconciliation. From then on she has desired to see the passion and compassion of God's love bring people to reconciliation with God and with each other, thus bringing down every wall of separation between us. Donna helps host families in Amman as they wait for visas, escorts them to Israel, and helps host them there before, during and after their heart surgeries. Contact her

brothers to dwell together in unity...for there the LORD commanded the blessing--life forevermore.
