He is perfect
At last the wait is over

A grandmother with her grandson

Doing well after cath
When I came to Sheba Hospital to visit Kamel today, he was happily lying in his bed and and drinking his milk. His grandmother stood faithful by his side and took care of him.
He is doing very well after his Cath yesterday and we are glad to hear that good news. There is still a long way ahead of him but he is making good steps. We pray that he will soon be able to go back home to his family!
Cath today
When I met Kamel’s grandmother today in the hallway of Sheba Hospital, she told me that he is having his cath. She was not too worried because by now it’s almost a routine with the many caths he has had in the past few weeks.
After a little time, I visited Kamel in the ICU where he was awake and looking around the room with his big brown eyes. A nurse could tell me that the Catheterization went well and he is doing fine for now. They are not sure about the future plans and if Kamel needs more caths or not, so they just observe him now and treat him in the way he needs.
“Thank you Lord for the successful procedure today and for blessing little Kamel with healing and strength.“
Cath on Thursday
How nice to see Kamel and his grandmother again. When I visited them today at Sheba Hospital, his grandmother immediately told me that a catherization for Kamel is planned for November 17th. Thank God, we could fall back on the great help of Kamel’s roommate. She helped to translate from Arabic to English.
Please pray for Kamel as he is going through a difficult time. Lord, please heal him and also give strength to his grandmother, who will soon return to Gaza after a long time at his side. Then Kamel’s father will travel to Israel to be with his son. Lord please bless the family!
Getting better
Kamel had an echo at Sheba Hospital today to check how his heart is doing. His doctor later explained that the cardiologist who ordered the echo will decide if and when Kamel will need his next cath, which should widen his pulmonary valve. But overall he’s doing fine and much better now than some days ago. When I accompanied him and his grandmother to the echo today, he even gave us a smile, which made his grandmother smile even more brightly. It was really great to see both of them so happy together.
Thank you for praying for Kamel and also his grandmother. It seems like Kamel will still stay in hospital for some time since he needs more caths. Hopefully he will get better soon as a result of those caths. Please also pray for his doctors, for extra wisdom as they determine the best care and treatment for Kamel.
Condition not where it needs to be
Kamel underwent surprisingly another catheterization today and unfortunately isn’t in a good condition right now. His doctor explained to me that they saw in Kamel’s echo that his stenosis is severe and that he will still need many caths in the future because of that. Also he will have to continue his antibiotics for at least the next four weeks as he still has bacteria in his blood.
Another problem for Kamel is that he’s not gaining enough weight like his doctors would like him to. When his cath was finished, I spent some time with him and his grandmother, but Kamel wasn’t feeling so well and was crying most of the time. I held him again in my arms and comforted him, but sadly that didn’t help anything today. He cried and cried and only stopped a bit, a while after.
Hopefully, Kamel’s escort can also be changed soon since his grandmother really wants to go back home. Because of that, Kamel’s father will hopefully come and take care of him. Please pray for Kamel and his family. He’s really not doing well and needs our prayers. Let us also pray for Kamel’s father, that he can get permission to come to the hospital and look after his son.
Another catheterization
After having an echo at Sheba Hospital yesterday, doctors today decided that Kamel will need another cath before he will be able to return home. He still has some bacteria in his blood which is why the doctors still want to wait a little longer until he gets his next cath, which won’t be until next week. His doctor also told me that at some point he will need a central line.
Later in the afternoon I met Kamel and his grandmother outside the ward in the hallway and was really happy to see them. When his grandmother went to get his milk, I held Kamel for the first time and I just then realised how precious he is and how beautifully God created him. I was overwhelmed by Kamel’s cuteness and how he looked at me with his big eyes. Just a few minutes later, he fell asleep in my arms even as I fed him his milk. In the end I brought him back to his room in the pediatric ward to let him sleep in his bed. I was so thankful today that we can leave him in Gods hands and be sure that he has a good plan for him.
Let us pray for Kamel and his next cath, whenever it will be.
Battling bacteria
Kamel’s grandmother was sitting next to his bed. She was glad to see someone visiting her and immediately went to get a chair.
Kamel still has antibiotics for the bacteria that recent testing indicates he still has in his system. When the bacteria is gone, it will be determined whether a cath is needed or not. The decision will be made after the weekend. Kamel is now sleeping soundly.
We pray for Kamel and his brave grandmother.
Not ready for discharge

Low potassium levels
Kamal has been moved from the 2nd ICU to the 5th floor of Sheba Hospital this morning. Grandma doesn’t understand why, she thought she and Kamal could go home and asks for an explanation.
The blood test showed that the potassium level is too low. We spoke to a doctor, an assistant who speaks Arabic. She explained to grandma what is going on and will give her more attention.
Kamal received another blood test. We pray God to be close to Kamal and his grandmother. We ask for comfort for grandma now that things are not going as expected.
Low glucose
Unfortunately every time I’ve seen little Kamel today he was asleep, but it was great to see him so peaceful. After I have had a little chat with his grandmother, I went to his doctor to ask about a possible discharge. In the last week, Kamel was doing better and better so it was a reasonable possibility. But unfortunately she told me that it’s not really in sight anymore at the moment. Our little Kamel has a hypertrophic ventricular and needs to take propanol. He can’t take it yet though because it causes low glucose which he already has. So to get better, he needs more glucose.
Let’s pray together for our little boy. May the Lord hold his graceful hand above this child that he may recover soon and maybe be able to go home and be with his family.
Slow progress

Holter test in progress

Moved to secondary ICU
Kamel has moved to the second ICU, room 1, of Sheba Hospital Children’s wing.
Kamel looks at me with his big brown eyes as I enter. Kamel gets a genetic test. His parents have been asked to cooperate. Kamel’s heart rate is good. His grandmother likes to introduce me to the family over the phone. I have to speak and wave to everyone.
Prayer point is the upcoming examination and that the results provide sufficient information for the doctors to decide on a good treatment.
Slowly improving
The day after his extubation Kamel is still stable and doing well. This is a huge step for him as he had to get reintubated the last two times they tried to extubate him. He doesn’t even get oxygen support anymore. The doctor also told me that his heart is still not very good and that they want to start a new medication soon.
Thank you Lord that Kamel is slowly getting better!
Extubated and doing well
Today was my first time visiting little Kamel in the ICU of Sheba Hospital. Even though his grandmother did not know me or my coworker Tineke, she welcomed us very nicely and in the blink of an eye we were on a video call with some of the family of Kamel. While we were with them, Kamel slept peacefully. He was extubated yesterday and they started to feed him with a tube through his nose. The doctor was telling us that Kamel is digesting the food well so far. Right now he doesn’t need oxygen support anymore and the doctors are doing their best to see that it stays this way.
Pray for Kamel’s recovery and his lovely family so that they can have peace over the situation they are in right now.
Extubated
When we entered Kamels room this morning at Sheba Hospital, there was one thing that we recognized right away: Kamel was extubated! It was very great to see him that lively during his dreams, and later on when he was awake trying to realize what is happening.
Although he cried a bit, he really seemed to be happy about some company. His grandmother is really caring for him, but she also seems to be a bit tired and exhausted. So coworker Luisa went out of the ICU with her to distract her a bit. She really seemed to enjoy it!
Dear Lord, we want to thank you for the big steps Kamel is making. Thank you for his wonderful grandmother that cares so much about him! Please give both of them strength to keep on going!
Reintubated....again

No more surgery needed

A small infection

Successful cath today

One day after his arrival in Israel, Kamel already had a catheterization at Sheba Hospital this morning. It was mostly diagnostic but the doctors also widened one of the valves in his heart. Kamel is doing well afterwards. The doctors are watching him closely to see if he will need further intervention or surgery.
Please continue to pray for this little boy and his grandmother. It’s not easy for her to be away from the family!
New arrival in Sheba Hospital
At midday today, newborn Kamel arrived from Gaza via ambulance to Sheba Medical Center.
They brought him straight into the ICU and started right away to check if he is well. After that, they started to intubate him.
Unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to enter Kamel’s room, but I talked a bit to his grandmother and she seemed to be very calm. I’m sure she will be a big supporter for Kamel.
Please pray for little Kamel in this fragile time for him.
