Saying goodbye to all her friends
Meena and her mother are very happy today since they were discharged from the hospital today. Before they left, Meena’s mother went with her daughter to the ICU to say goodbye to all her friends. The hospital staff in that department know Meena well and they all love her. It is always nice to witness moments like this because it confirms in my heart that hospital staff is not only seeing these kids as patients, but also as lovely human beings.
Look at that picture! How can you not love that bundle of joy you see? Surely the Kurdish mothers in the hospital will miss Meena’s mother a lot but also.
Meena has to take some medicine during the coming week, and needs to come back to the hospital after the week for follow-up. Please continue to pray for her.
A good echo today, but there's a fever
Meena was due to be discharged today, but is being kept for a few more days due to a fever. She did come from the department to have an echo today which showed good surgical results from last week. Her mum reiterated what she has said from the beginning, i.e. until Meena is good, her mother will stay with her, it is no problem.
Everyone loved her today as they saw her in the echo waiting area. The staff who passed by, would comment on how cute she is, and the other Kurdish families who were nearby, came over to photograph her. For a minute it looked like Meena was having a paparazzi moment. What can we say? She’s so beautiful and strong. Please continue to pray for Meena’s recovery. Pray also for her mum who is working hard to help the other Kurdish families in the hospital especially with translation. We saw today that Meena’s mum is becoming very tired.
Meena had a good day of recovery today! Her chest drains were removed, and she was extubated again. Her mum rushed to her side, as she was ushered out of the room during these medical processes. She explained to me that Meena was responsive this morning to the music she played on her phone. Meena’s mum is delighted that Meena is so strong and brave and recovering well. Her mum has some hard work holding the hands of her strong little girl, when the sedation wears off. When Meena is squirming around, there is a risk she will pull out the tubes and cannulas attached to her. Thank God for Meena’s recovery.
Successful Tetralogy of Fallot repair today
Meena had her surgery, Tetralogy of Fallot repair, done today at Sheba hospital. After four hours, a doctor came out of the operating room to say the surgery was done and the heart is functioning well. When Meena was transferred from the operation room to her room in the ICU, her mum walked alongside the bed and phoned all of her family. After she called her husband, she said he cried. We are so thankful to God for this day, that He placed Meena in such a dedicated and loving family.
Last week, the plan was for Meena to have surgery, but another Kurdish child who was urgent, went instead of her. Meena’s mother sh0wed no hint whatsoever of bitterness or disappointment. Since picking up the five Kurdish families at the Jordanian border and during most days since, Meena’s mother has looked not primarily to her own interests, but to the interests of others. To see such selflessness displayed day in and day out when she also carries the weight of the illness of her daughter is remarkable. She is a woman of great strength and great mercy, both of which we saw today as Meena, who was admitted to the hospital last night, went into her operation this morning.
Georgia and I were with her in the waiting as we discussed her life in Kurdistan, and how it has been in the Jaffa house as well. We both reiterated to her the uniqueness of character we see in her and she said, “We must have a merciful heart towards others. What I want for Meena, I also want for the other children in the house,” and she proceeded to name each one.
Thank you for your prayers for this family.
