Watan, a little boy with a huge smile and big brown eyes, came with his parents from Jenin to Sheba Medical Center today to receive a checkup. Upon finding their family in the cardiology unit, coworker Hannah and I were praising the Lord for how healthy he evidently is. In fact, it was just last month that Watan was discharged after receiving a life-saving surgery which he recovered quickly from. His parents are exceedingly joyful as they see him thriving in health.
After receiving his echo, we accompanied the happy family to Watan’s ECG just across the hall. The parents lovingly worked together to keep him entertained as a sweet Jewish nurse named Rita performed the test. Yet again, it was beautiful to see an outplaying of peace between these two people groups as they worked together to care for Watan.
This happens time and time again at Sheba. It is a blessing to get to witness such a beautiful picture of God’s plan to redeem and unite all people under His mighty name.
Once the tests were completed, Watan’s parents profusely expressed their gratitude towards Shevet Achim for the support they have received. They insisted upon treating us to coffee as their thanks. For about two hours we had the greatest pleasure of sitting outside in the sunshine, sipping coffee, and discussing all sorts of topics from our community, and their family, to Arabic lessons and even a history class. Watan’s father is well-studied and shared many interesting facts about both Islam and Christianity. It proved a fascinating conversation and we were all disappointed that it had to come to an end.
But this precious family invited us numerous times to visit their home in Jenin. Lord willing, we will meet once more, and until then we eagerly anticipate seeing them again. We praise the Lord for orchestrating such a lovely interaction with Watan and his family today. May all glory be to Him!
Please join us in continuing to cover Watan in prayer for his health.
