Today ten-day-old Layan from the Hebron area was transferred from the Caritas Catholic Hospital in Bethlehem to Sheba Children’s Hospital in Ramat Gan. The West Bank hospitals do not have the expertise and/or the technology required to facilitate the complex congenital heart defects operation needed for saving the life of tiny Layan who is three-weeks premature.
Also, Layan weighs only 1825 grams, or approximately four pounds. We observed the character quality of “chesed” or mercy or loving-kindness exercised in the transfer for it was Israel’s Sheba Hospital that reached out to Shevet Achim to ask if we could facilitate help for this precious West Bank baby. Let it not be said that all of Israel cares not for their neighbors! This is the Israel I know and love, reaching out to their neighbor. We are called to love our neighbors as ourselves, this is the whole of the Bible.
Layan’s mother and father were given permission to enter Israel and wait for the care of their tiny newborn daughter. They were grateful for the opportunity to be at the world class children’s heart hospital. They told me that Layan would be having a heart surgery within the next couple days.
Please lift up delicate premature baby Layan. Please pray for her body to be strong and ready for the surgery. Also pray for God to be with the doctors and nurses, to give them wisdom, understanding, and knowledge on how to best treat Layan. Pray for her parents as they wait for their little girl’s treatment.
