Little by little, Layan is continuing to show improvements, and for this we praise our Lord! His faithful and steady hand has been ever present on her journey of healing after recently receiving surgery. A few days ago, our team visiting the hospital was told that there are two things Layan needs to do before being discharged: she has to bottle feed on her own, and weigh at least 2 kg. As of today, it seems she has joyfully succeeded at that first goal and is now happily receiving her nourishment from bottles.
Along with this major achievement comes the need to continue to gain weight. Lord willing, now that Layan is bottle feeding, this will begin to happen faster. As of right now, she’s remained consistently just under 2 kg. If she doesn’t meet that mark in the next few days, she will likely be transferred to a hospital in the West Bank that is closer to home until that goal is met. Her sweet mother expressed both joy in the progress as step closer to home, but also a longing to simply just go home and be with their family instead of resettling in yet another hospital.
While she seems very tired and ready to go home, she expressed deep gratitude towards the doctors and nurses at Sheba Medical Center who have taken such good care of Layan, and also for the support she has received through the Shevet community. Those of us at Shevet praise the Lord for the opportunity He has given us to reach out to her and her dear little Layan through this whole process. All glory be to God!
