We thought it was so sweet that the hospital staff gifted Layan a beautiful pink mobile for her to enjoy. It has made her room feel so much more personal. Layan is still right on the edge of reaching 2 kilograms and currently weighs 1.920 kg.
At this point, the doctor has told Layan’s mother that she cannot leave her alone. Yesterday, her mother shared that she hadn’t left the unit in over 10 days–10 days without seeing the sun. Our goal then became to do everything we could to help her get outside, even if only for a little while. We spoke with her doctor, who explained that the only way Layan could go outside was if she was transported in a baby stroller. When her mother heard the news, she couldn’t stop smiling. Today, we waited for hours for a stroller to become available. Finally, Jonathan found one and we were able to go for a walk!
We took Layan and her mother outside and walked to the mall at Sheba, where her mother enjoyed some non-hospital food.
For 30 minutes, she was able to breathe fresh air instead of the constantly sanitized air of the ICU. On the way back, she became very concerned about Layan and wanted to hurry back to her room. Her protective instincts are beautiful. We had such a blessed time with Um Layan. We are so grateful she was finally able to get some fresh air, and that Layan got to leave the hospital for the very first time!
What an honor it was to be part of that special milestone. As of now, the plan is for Layan to be discharged this Sunday or Monday, God willing. She is feeding wonderfully, but we’re still waiting for her to reach the 2-kilogram mark. The doctors are also taking time to teach her mother how to care for Layan once they return home.

She deeply misses her family and her first daughter, who just celebrated her second birthday. Thank You Lord for the incredible progress You are already bringing in Layan’s life.
