Despite a difficult few days, Hassan’s Aunt seemed as cheerful and optimistic as ever. Her patience and faithfulness never cease to astound me. Over the past months, she has spent countless days and weeks by Hassan’s bedside, talking to him, comforting him and a lot of the time, just sitting there with him. As we sat today, his aunt showed me countless pictures of Hassan and the rest of her family back in Gaza. This love is so beautiful to see.
Hassan seems to be doing a bit better today. Although he still has a long way to go and is on various medications, his fever has gone, which is great news.
As I turned to leave, Hassan’s Aunt handed me a box of dates, insisting I take them to share with the rest of the community. I was really touched by her generosity and encouraged that our visits mean so much to her.
