Watan’s young parents have been calling us every day this past week. Their son needs an urgent, life-saving heart surgery that is not available in the West Bank. Watan is now almost nine months old. His parents waited a long time for the cash-strapped Palestinian Authority to help them, but that help never came. Finally their cardiologist asked the Shevet Achim community to intervene.
When we first talked to Watan’s father five days ago, he pleaded with us for help. He recognized he was powerless and there was no other way. With our Father’s compassion, and faith in his provision, we then asked the surgeon at the Sheba Medical Center to accept Watan. The surgeon told us he would be out of the country until tomorrow. Watan’s family is still waiting, and must be wondering if help is ever really going to come.
