Khalid is healed

Every day with Khalid and his father is a joy, and today especially as this was the day that Khalid was cleared to fly back to Kurdistan! Still there are no airplanes yet, but the cardiologist was so happy with the surgery results he saw in the echo. Khalid is “without limitations,” in the words of the doctor. Before he goes back to Kurdistan, he will come back for one last check-up and then be off to his country!

Khalid’s father said after hearing about the excellent surgery results, Khalid wants to walk and go outside, but there is the quarantine! All of us can relate to this global issue. God willing, there will be a time soon where Khalid and his dad can go for long walks in the fresh air, in a world free from Corona. But for now, we give thanks that there are plenty of long walks ahead of Khalid, which makes me think of the words from author JRR Tolkein’s “Lord of the Rings”

“Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.”

And for Khalid, these lyrics from the song are also a prayer, that he would go from here and be able to experience life in the fullest. He has been out of school for years and unable to do sports. God we ask you would give him those experiences that he missed out on. We also pray that he will be on the path with Jesus, in whom we have abundant and new life.

When we got to the parking garage Khalid wanted to take a picture because we were very high up and the view was beautiful! He and his dad took selfies and I took some pictures of them too. It was something very precious to see Khalid soaking up these little moments of joy that he can now be fully in without any thought of his condition. We praise you God, Khalid is healed.
