The sweet smiles of Mohammad’s mother and grandmother greeted coworker Joy and I as we entered the ICU of Sheba Medical Center today. They were standing by his side gently caring for him in all the ways they could— from gently moving his legs to a more comfortable position, to softly stroking his head. It was clear that there is so much love for this precious baby, and at the same time so much pain at seeing him still not improved.
As the doctor shared, Mohammad’s heart continues to look okay, but he is still having some other issues. The primary problem at the moment is that his left lung remains slightly collapsed. Although the staff wants to attempt removing the ventilator, it is not possible at this time as it is supporting the structure of his lungs. If removed, he would quickly deteriorate. So, for now, Mohammad will remain on the ventilator.
His condition is likely to stay like this until Sunday when a scope will be used to look inside his lungs and discover what the issue is. Depending on what is found, it seems that Mohammad may need another surgery sometime next week before he can come off the ventilator. For now he is stable, but the time is ticking away and the longer Mohammad remains on the ventilator, the more damage he could face elsewhere.
Please continue to lift him up in prayer to the Lord. May there be healing in his lungs, and may the doctors continue to have wisdom on the best course of treatment. Finally, may the Lord comfort the tired hearts of Mohammad’s family as they remain by his side day in and day out hoping to see him improved and healthy. We commit Mohammad into the hands of the Lord!
