Voice for the voiceless

When coworker Lucia and I visited Somaia at Sheba Medical today, she was awake and looking around. At one point, she started crying and this nearly broke my heart. To see this little girl wanting to cry, but there is no sound coming out of her tiny body is so hard to see. She wants to cry, to tell us that she is not okay, but she just can’t because of her tracheostomy. This reminded me so much of the verses in Proverbs 31, 8-9:

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

All our little kids here don’t have a voice to speak for themselves and so we are called to fight for them. Sometimes this can be challenging, but it is worth it.

Thank you for joining us in fighting for these little ones! Thanks for your prayers for Somaia!
