Discharged after Miraculous Quick Recovery
Today, on Easter, our little Ozhen could come home with us! He just received his surgery on Wednesday. The following day, he stood in his bed with all the tubes and wires still in and connected with his body. It was crazy! It felt like he would like to be active, play and just escape it all. After a transfer to the secondary ICU and a quick recovery there, this morning we received the news of his discharge. Praise the Lord! His mother is very happy to be home again. Also he is just taking one medication, which is not common.
Let us pray for this family and for all the families in our care, especially in this special day when Jesus has broken the chains of our sin and death. May they also experience God and his mighty power. And may we can be lights and encounter them with His love.
Praise God, because sweet little Ozheen was happily standing up in his bed, less than 24 hours after finishing his surgery yesterday! His mum was in really good spirits also, as she can see that he has strength and is recovering well.
Ozhen still has 3 chest drains in, and is attached to a number of wires, however he was wriggling about trying to get free from the bed! He walked over and gave me a hug, and me and his mum joked that he was trying to get me to bring him home to Shevet.
The medical report was also positive, as we could see. He can eat any milk or food that he wants. Also the nurse was asking to learn some Kurdish words so that she is able to interact with her. Mateen’s mum is also about in the ICU for his surgery, and so can help with some translation. These two mums have a lovely friendship which is beautiful to see.
Please keep Ozhen in your prayers over the weekend. Thank God for giving him so much strength and life!
Today, very early in the morning, our beautiful Ozhen was taken to the surgery room for his open heart surgery. When I arrived at the hospital, the anesthesiologist and the nurse were already explaining his mother the consent forms, which she had to sign. Also somebody helped her with translation, which facilitated the whole process especially for his mother. Ozhen was very upset and cried all the time. His mom also was a little afraid, but at the same time she seemed very strong. When we came to another room next to the surgeries rooms, Ozhen explored the place and also enjoyed the games they had. After some minutes, the anesthesiologist came to us and put Ozhen falling asleep. As a last good-bye, his mom gave him a kiss and then, they took Ozhen to the surgery room. The moment, we went to the waiting room, I only thought “God, please give her your peace.” I cannot speak her language, so it’s sometimes frustrating. But I know that God is the only one who can calm our hearts in difficult times.
During the long waiting, she talked with her husband. Also I tried to distract her by showing some pictures. After a while, we went to visit Mateen’s mother and they talked a lot. Also, around three hours later Zinar’s mother arrived. She also spent a long time with Ozhen’s mother. What a blessing to Ozhen’s mother! It’s really nice to see, how the mothers care for each other and help each other.
After a long time, finally the doctor came out! The surgery has finished, but he showed hypothermia, that’s why they had to heat him a bit. But thanks God, in general his surgery looks successful!
After some more waiting, Sofie and Noa had joined us as he finally came out. He is so beautiful and sweet! If everything continues well, he can be extubated today or tomorrow. His mom was really happy about his stable condition. Please remember this beautiful family in your prayers. Let us pray for completion of ozhen’s healing and for peace and strength for his mother.
Today our beautiful and smiling Ozhen had his first assessment at Sheba hospital. I took him and his Mom to the echo room. While we were waiting he really enjoyed the games at the hospital. During the echo, sweet Ozhan was very quiet at first, because his mom gave him milk and I put on music. But when the milk was gone he began to cry. I tried to keep him calm which was a little difficult but thank you Lord, we got it. His Mom only speaks Kurdish so I called one of our translators and she could answer all of the questions that the doctor had.
After that they did an ECG, chest x-ray, and vital signs. The doctor told us that she confirmed his diagnosis, but she thinks she we’ll have more information after the first CT scan and than decide on the surgery. She thinks that hopefully he only will need one surgery. For now the next step is to wait for the CT scan appointment. Please pray we get an appointment soon and he can have his surgery soon. Also pray for patience and peace in the mom’s heart in this time far away to home.
