As I’m just sitting at the airport, waiting for the gate to open, I have time to write the farewell blog for our lovely Taman. I hope that he and his mum found the way to their gate as easily as I did.
The last blog I wrote for Taman was after his surgery. It’s so beautiful to see how he has recovered since then, how he is full of life again. The result of yesterday’s echo was that Taman’s heart is completely healed and normal now and everything is how it should be. Praise God!
I was really excited when I found out that Taman is flying home at the exact same time as I am (I have to go to Germany for three weeks for a seminar). The drive to the airport was very peaceful and calm. Lina was humming a lovely melody. The passport control went well and after we checked in our baggage we had to say good bye and head for our gates.
As I’m writing this I’m praying Psalm 91, 11 over Taman’s life:
“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways!”
Today early in the morning we took our handsome Taman and his lovely mother to (hopefully) his last echo in Israel. When we arrived at the hospital they took an ECG, vital signs, and an echo. Taman enjoyed his echo, because he said that the doctor was taking a picture of his heart which he was so happy about.
Finally, the doctor came with a big smile. Mom said to her, “If I need to wait more time here for my child, I will.” The doctor said, “We really love Taman, and his heart looks really good; he can have a normal life.” When I heard that I was really happy! Praise the Lord he is really good. The doctor was able to answer each question that Mom had. Tara, our new volunteer, can speak English and Kurdish, so she is a such blessing for us. She was able to translate everything to Mom. After that, Taman was asking when he will have a party – he was very excited for it!
In the afternoon Taman was able to enjoy a beautiful farewell, and he was so happy. Mom also, lovely like always, was very thankful with us. They are ready to go home soon.
Please pray for protection in their journey to go home and also for a beautiful future for Taman.
What a wonderful end to this week! Taman had his first echo post surgery today, and it couldn’t have gone better! The doctor looked at the echo and saw that his heart was working great and there was not any fluid in the lungs, thank God! At one point Taman was walking around with a smile on his face and the doctor remarked “Does this look like a child who just had heart surgery?” We called Taman’s uncle to translate the good news that in two weeks they’ll come back for another echo, which should be their last one before going home to Kurdistan! Before we left, Taman’s mother asked for a picture with the doctor, which of course she was so happy to take. We thank God for these wonderful doctors and Taman who is a strong, healthy boy and for his beautiful mother!
Taman is recovering very well from his open heart surgery and today we took some blood sample to measure his electrolytes. He was very happy at the beginning but cried a little bit because of the needle. Soon the nurse gave him a couple of stickers with the shape of a champion golden medal and he was happy again.
Sweet Taman has been discharged from the hospital following his surgery. He has been in good spirits as we waited this afternoon to come home, playing with a police toy kit and eating pastries.
Thank God for his healing so far. Taman is so determined, fun and happy, it’s hard to think that this time a week ago, he was just out of surgery. We are so pleased to be able to bring him and his lovely mum back home (Taman is particularly excited to see Shevvie, the dog).
It is also so good to see his mum now happy and at peace, as she has been so worried about the surgery. It reminds me of these words from Psalm 107 which I prayed this morning:
He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves. What a blessing was that stillness as he brought them safely into harbor! Let them praise the Lord for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them.
Lovely Taman was already in secondary ICU today, just one day after his surgery. He already was extubated and starting to manage some biscuits to eat and speak to us. His main question was where is Shevvie (our dog). He is a good friend of hers and was hopeful that I had brought her to visit him in the hospital.
Taman’s uncle has taken the time to come here and join the mother in Israel for the surgery, as his passport allows him to enter Israel easily. It is good to see the support of his family who clearly proudly treasure this beautiful boy.
Thank you for praying for Taman. Praise God for bringing healing to him and peace for his mother.
Before Taman and his mum left to go to the hospital yesterday evening, the whole team had prayed for his surgery. I have never seen a mum crying so much before the surgery even happened. I think she was just really scared. So when Suhail and I were on our way to the hospital this morning, I prayed again for peace for Taman’s mum. As we arrived, Taman was already out of surgery, lying motionless in his bed. He was still under sedation and looked quite peaceful.
The nurse was just great, as he explained in detail to Taman’s mum and uncle what all of the tubes are for, what medication he is receiving and so on. He also said that the surgeons didn’t do a minimal invasion as planned, because the bypass would be easier during an open heart surgery. Besides he added that everything (Taman’s temperature, his lungs, his blood pressure…) was perfect. I think tomorrow we will know more about his condition. Many thanks to everyone who prayed for Taman’s healing!
The mum told me that she was alright yet she looked really tired and worried as she was sitting next to her boy’s bed, her eyes fixed on him, waiting for him to wake up. Please keep her in your prayers, she needs strength!
Getting Ready for a New Heart
After Shabbat we took our sweet Taman and his mom to the hospital to be admitted for surgery tomorrow. Mom was crying; she was so sad because her little boy is going to have a big procedure. So just before leaving home we prayed for them. He is going to be the first surgery tomorrow.
On our way to the hospital Taman was happy and singing with us. When we arrived, his uncle was waiting for us. He wanted to be here to translate to the mother. I went to get the stickers to the emergency room and finally we went to the ICU. One room was waiting for him. Thanks to the Lord the uncle made sure that the mother understood everything.
They performed blood test. In the beginning he cried a little bit but after he was happy and showed me his cannula. He is such a brave boy. Please pray for this beautiful boy, for a successful surgery and strength for his family.
Taman is a such handsome, smart and lovely boy. Today he had his first assessment in the hospital. It was a long day for him, but he was very happy because they were going to take many pictures of his heart! Thanks to the lord his uncle arrived today and he could translate everything to mom.
They made three echos, and two doctors spoke with mom and his uncle, they explained everything and answered every question that they had. Taman was in a good mood all the time but in his last echo he fell asleep. Yesterday he was upset with me because I took some swabs and I promised him to give an ice cream. So while we waiting for the second doctor, he ate his ice cream and he was really happy about that. Finally the doctors came and they told us that they confirmed his diagnosis. They told his mom that his problem can be fixed through open heart surgery or maybe could be done with a catheterisation.
So Taman’s parents need to decide which option they would like. If a cath isn’t successful, then he could then have a surgery. Mom and uncle were happy to hear these possibilities and also that the doctor took the time to explain everything to them. Please pray for wisdom for his parents to decide the best plan for this wonderful boy.
