You can’t even see tiny little Sameer properly in the picture as he is so small and wrapped in a big blanket. We where jokingly saying to his lovely mother, “Where is Sameer?” as she put him in his stroller when we were leaving Sheba hospital.
Sameer’s mother was in a really good mood today as she could go home with her beloved son. He has recovered well enough to go home to see his family. We will miss them in the time that they are at home but of course we are thankful to God for this great outcome and we will receive them again in one month, as Sameer has to come back for follow-up care.
We enjoyed the time with Sameer’s mother in the car and our tiny boy was sleeping for almost the whole time. Please pray for them to have a nice month at home with their family and that Sameer remains in a good condition.
Sameer has improved a lot in the caring environment of Sheba hospital; he is doing much better and breathing without oxygen.
His mum is faithfully taking care of him. We can pray for him as he continues to recover, but also thank God for this outcome because the surgery was high-risk and he is now able to breath on room air, whereas before he was not able to do that and was constantly with oxygen support.
It’s been quite a week for little Sameer since his emergency surgery a week ago. He is now extubated and receiving supplemental oxygen through his nose.
Sameer began running a fever yesterday and is receiving antibiotics while waiting for blood test results. The doctor in the ICU at Sheba Medical shared with me that they are closely monitoring Sameer after what appeared to be a seizure earlier this week. His brain ultrasound came back normal, so they will continue to monitor him and run tests to determine the cause. Just today, he had an electroencephalogram, as well as a bronchoscopy to investigate pressure on his lungs.
Please pray for healing for tiny Sameer in the midst of all these challenges.
Sameer had his surgery this morning at Sheba hospital. After five hours, the surgeon shared the good news that the surgery was successful. They still had to close his chest and would bring Sameer to the ICU.
Doctors connected the two pulmonary arteries with the aorta, all successfully. It took them another hour before they brought Sameer out of the surgery and he was stabilized.
Since his catheterization at Sheba hospital last month, there has not yet been a definite decision for surgery for Sameer.
Over the weeks, Sameer has been unable to be without oxygen. Yesterday, he began deteriorating, and is intubated in the pediatric ICU.
So Sameer needs further treatment, but the surgery will be difficult because his pulmonary arteries are thin. At the same time, he seems to need the surgery. Please be praying with us for Sameer and for his mother, and for all the doctors involved in this decision.
In the days following his catheterization at Sheba hospital, doctors are deciding what to do next for Sameer, as he is too young for a big operation, but they would like to send him back to Gaza in a better condition than he is currently in having had only a catheterization.
At this point, Sameer has a fever. The next step, which is an operation to place a shunt that would help blood flow to his lungs, is postponed until he is completely recovered.
Please be praying for his life and for his mother who is with him and taking excellent care of her boy.
Little Sameer had a diagnostic catheterization today. His mother was hoping the cath would show that he is ready for the surgery to correct his Tetralogy of Fallot.
Unfortunately, while the cath was successful and Sameer is stable, the doctors found that his pulmonary arteries are too small for the surgery to be possible yet. They would like to wait and do the operation after Sameer has grown a bit more. This was very disappointing for his mother, who so desperately wants healing for her baby boy. Please pray for patience and encouragement for her.
Sameer is still in the ICU at Sheba for the time being. If his condition remains stable, he will be discharged to Gaza, where he will wait and grow until he is ready for his surgery.
Yesterday, little Sameer and his mother came in an ambulance from Gaza to the Sheba Medical Center, where Sameer has been admitted.
When Co-worker Joanne and I went to the ICU to greet Sameer’s mother and her son, we saw Sameer moving in his bed and the nurses were working on him. He looks quite big in the picture, but he is tiny. His mother is really friendly and we were happy to meet her.
Sameer’s mother shared that she has three other children at home. Sameer is three weeks old and diagnosed with Tetralogy Of Fallot. Please pray for him and for his mother to settle well into the hospital, and for ongoing wisdom for the doctors and nurses.
