Today Lamis left Sheba Medical Center and went back home to Gaza. There is nothing that the doctors can do for her. The only thing that can help her is waiting for a donor heart, which is a slow and difficult process.
For the doctors it is also hard to let go. A doctor in the ICU this morning said: “We are unable to give up on her life…we cannot just send her home without hope.”
Please pray for Lamis. If it is Gods will for her to live, He will provide. Otherwise we know that Lamis is in Gods hands. In God is where we find hope.
As Lamis slept this morning the meeting to decide about surgery for her took place at Sheba Hospital. The conversation is still being had, although the initial opinion is that she would not survive the surgery and therefore it is better not to go through with the operation; also a contributing factor is that the likelihood of a heart transplant is slim to none.
The doctors are still discussing possible ways of treating Lamis, so we are trusting in God to provide for her. Please pray with us for Lamis’ future, to God there is not a part of her life that is unknown. May we continue to trust Him with her.
Today Lamis underwent a special type of stress test, where medication was given to her to see how her heart rate would increase, but the results did not yield the information they hoped to obtain.
To discuss her case, the doctors are having a meeting next week in order to plan the next steps.
Please pray for Lamis at this time; the surgery they might perform is extremely dangerous and also could result in her needing a heart transplant, so the doctors are weighing the risk factors of having a surgery or having her go home without one.
This morning, I stopped by Sheba hospital to visit with Lamis and her mother for a few minutes. Lamis is shy, but warmed up slowly when an educational consultant from Sheba arrived to spend some time with her.
It was nice to meet Lamis’ mother properly, as things were a bit rushed in the emergency room when they arrived last week. Lamis’ mother is so sweet and welcoming, blowing kisses and calling me “habibti” (my love). She and Lamis had to leave Gaza for Sheba in a hurry, so it’s been quite a challenge for Lamis to settle in to the ICU without all the things she had to leave at home.
Lamis has to undergo an exertion test for her heart, and depending on the results of the test, she may have a surgery for the obstructed valve in her heart.
Please pray for wisdom and clarity for the doctors as they plan a course of treatment, and for Lamis and her mother as they adjust to the hospital.
This evening, we welcomed 11-year-old Lamis from Gaza to Sheba hospital. In the coming days, she will have surgery to correct an obstruction of one of the valves in the left ventricle of her heart.
This is the first time we’ve met Lamis and her mother, but her mother greeted me and Moshe like good friends. We look forward to getting to know them both in the days to come!
Thank God for Lamis’ safe arrival and please join us in prayer for her upcoming surgery!
