Four-fold Problem in Doaa's Heart

Posted on Wed, 02/22/2012 - 15:31 by Ryan Gregg

Doaa is a beautiful five year old girl from a village in Kurdistan, northern Iraq, close to the Turkish border. Her heart condition is a combination of four problems within the organ, and an American cardiologist has recommended her for open heart surgery in Israel.

Doaa comes from a large family, with 9 children in total - she has five sisters and three brothers.

Her medical report describes her as "cyanotic with clubbing." This means that the palor of her skin is abnormally blue, and that her fingers are clubbed inward from lack of oxygen.

The doctors also relayed a secondary diagnosis of a developmental anomaly in her right ear.

Doaa's time in Israel can be a transformation of her heart and young life. The visa application has just been submitted, and we hope to see her and her mother, who is escorting her to Israel, at Shevet Achim in Jerusalem on Sunday, March 4, 2012.
