Floryan's Heart Surgery

An Unexpected Call

Posted on Sun, 04/23/2017 - 20:33 by Alexa Bigl

Floryan has been called in for surgery. He and his mom are on their way to Wolfson right now and Floryan is scheduled for the morning surgery slot. Ruth got a very surprising phone call just a little while ago asking for him to come in tonight. I was so excited to go over to where the families were all preparing to eat dinner together and tell Floryan's mother. In my broken Arabic, I told her the exciting news. She hugged me fiercely and was very joyful for a moment before the waterworks broke. She was soon crying very hard, overwhelmed with all the emotions. Happy, relieved, excited, nervous, scared, and so much more is experienced in these moments.

Tomorrow will be filled with even more emotions, but we are ready to continue trusting in our heavenly Father to heal Floryan. Lord, we pray your protection over Floryan. We pray for comfort for mother and son, and we pray for strength in the coming hours. May the Lord's name be lifted high through Floryan's healing.

A Special Day

Today was a very special day for Floryan and his mother. With smiles and enthusiasm they were released from the hospital after two days of IV therapy and medication to treat his viral infection, sore throat, fever and vomiting. As you can see from the photo he is back to his rascally two year-old self, as he repeatedly tries to play catch with an apple that was handed to him.

His mother is very relieved with his much improved health and is happy to be back again in our Jaffa home to await his heart surgery. I thank you for your prayers for Floryan. Please continue to pray for his health, as sometimes, due to his heart defect, his oxygen levels can go quite low. The nurses at Shevet are doing a great job of monitoring him daily. He remains shy at times but when he relaxes he loves to play. His mother is very devoted to his care and loves him dearly.

Finally Some Rest

After a few days of seemingly starting a cold, Floryan tonight was admitted to the hospital as he suddenly got worse. After examination, the doctor is suspecting tonsillitis and various tests have been taken. He is now admitted and presently asleep while we are waiting for results of the tests tomorrow.

First Assessments

Floryan underwent his initial assessments today. His mother and I enjoyed a beautiful walk to the hospital in the morning, where we were warmly received by the nurses and the doctor in the children's ward.

It took a while for Floryan to warm up, and the different tests did not help much in the process. The nurses tried to distract and reward him during the assessments - sometimes with more, sometimes with less success.

By 12:30 in the afternoon, the echo was done. Dr. Alona reported that Floryan's heart repair appears to be straight forward. He would not need additional tests prior to the surgery.

Both mother and son are now settling in our community, and even though communication is a little bit more difficult for most of us, there are ways to get things across. Floryan is starting to feel comfortable around the other families.

We are thankful for God's provision for this beautiful boy to come to Israel for his heart surgery. May the time he and his mother will spend here be meaningful and special.

New Little Friend

This morning we received our new little friend, Floryan, at the airport. He arrived together with his mom from Kurdistan, northern Iraq. He was very shy right from the beginning and prefered to snuggle in the arms of his mom, observing all of the new people around him at Shevet and getting to know the new place. Later on , a little smile would come over his face now and then, as he was starting to feel a bit more comfortable, and was playing.
After lunch we had a little walk together with the other kids to the beach. Floryan and his mom were able to see the ocean, listen to the waves, play ball, and enjoy the sun together with us a for a bit.
He surely will become friends soon with the other kids and feel more comfortable. Tomorrow he will have appointments at the hospital to begin his initial assessments.
