The doctors deliberated this morning and finally decided that it was safe to send Malak home. Her fever abated two days ago and the congestion will clear up back in Gaza under the care of one of SACH's specially trained doctors.

Malak appeared alert and peaceful, and her young mother excited to be returning home with her healthy baby girl, as we loaded them in the Shevet van outside the ICU and set off for Gaza. Thank God for his beautiful touch of grace for Malak's family!

After another echo today, Malak and her teen-aged mother are still not Gaza-bound. Malak is bouncing in and out of a fever and has mild congestion. The doctors are keeping her for observation, since they do not send away a child until they are certain he or she will be in good enough shape to do well under their local medical care. So for the time being, Malak and her mother will continue making the rounds among their friends at the Wolfson Medical Center.

Today Malak had an echo exam of her heart function, and while the echo looked fine, she has had a fever. Because of the fever, the doctors are keeping her for observation until the fever goes down.

Malak's mother is very well liked amongst the hospital patrons though. She has found many fellow parents to be friends during this wait and is an inspiration of motherhood at nineteen.

Baby Malak had her surgery yesterday, and today her mother showed me into the ICU where Malak was crying. She had been extubated from mechanical ventilation just half an hour prior and was pretty upset about that. However, the nurse said that Malak was recovering well and that nothing of concern had arisen. Thank God for the promise of a good life following her successful surgery.

Eight-month-old Malak from the Gaza Strip was brought to the Wolfson Medical Center in Israel today by the Shevet Achim staff. She is invited for surgery to repair a hole between the ventricles of her tiny heart.

Malak is accompanied by her mother Rima. Due to scheduling complications, the surgery may be postponed for a few days. Please pray for both Malak and her mother as they wait.
