Mohammed 's Heart Surgery

Safely through Catheterization

Mohammed, Bilal and Ikram all had their heart caths done today. By the time Donna, Denise and I got to the hospital Bilal was already finished and we found him in his room; Mohammed was having his catheterization and Ikram was being wheeled to the 1st floor to have his.

After a catherazation the patient is supposed to lay still for 6 hours but with a child it can be 4 hours. They especially have to keep the right leg where they had the cath done straight. Mohammed had a little trouble laying still, he kept wanting to lay on his side but he did very well and within 4 hours he was sitting up and eating. He had to fast before the catherazation so he was very hungry.

We got him a Happy Meal from McDonald's and he liked the toy dog that came in it. Dr. Alona told Donna that his Catherization turned out good. Thank you for your prayers.

Admitted for Catheterization

Today Mohammed was admitted for his catheterization, the first step in the healing of his heart. He came to give me a hug when I first arrived after seeing me while peeping out of his room. In fact, every time Tim or I walked into the ward we saw Mohammed checking around his room to see what was happening. Our visit was rather brief today, but we assured Um Mohammed we'd be there tomorrow to sit with her during her son's catheterization. Please pray for both of them during the procedure.

Mohammed's First Echo in Israel

Yesterday we took our five new families to Wolfson Hospital for their echos and tuberculosis test. The children had some time in between tests to play with each other.

Mohammed was full of courage during his TB test. He was strong throughout the whole process. There was not enough time for Mohammed to take an echo test, but the doctor said the results for the TB test will be available tomorrow.
These children have already won our hearts, and are an amazing gift from God!

Mohammed Arrives in Israel

Mohammed together with four other Kurdish Iraqi boys traveled across the Jordan River today for his lifesaving heart surgery in Israel. The trip was unexpectedly extended by a three-hour delay at a Jordanian military checkpoint in the sweltering Jordan Valley.

Thankfully the air conditioning was working and the boys proved to be patient.

Our house in Jerusalem has been extra busy the last day or two as we made preparations for the next group of Iraqi children coming over for surgeries -- this time we have five boys ranging in age from 2 1/2 to 10 years old. We still have good memories of them from the echocardiogram clinic held in Amman in June, and knew that several of the children were urgent cases, so we were anxious to get them here. After a very long day getting across the Jordan border, they all arrived tired and hungry last evening. Below is a picture of Mohammed and his mother eating dinner.

Um Deya and Um Hawar spent their day anticipating the arrival of their new friends-to-be by working in the kitchen to have a meal ready for them. In fact, Deya was at the same screening, so the families had met briefly in Amman and this was a reunion for them. This was a great time to reunite for some families, and a time to continue the bonding process as they begin this miraculoud journey of healing and faith.

Please pray for Mohammed Faraydoon, Mohammed Burhan, Noor Khalid, Mohammed, and Ikram as they head to the hospital in the morning for their initial admission examinations. We look forward to how God will touch the lives of these children and their families as He provides all that is needed in this opportunity for their heart surgery here.
