Mohammed Died Today

Mohammed died today about 20 minutes after they took him off the machine. While I was with Mohammed's mother during the hours following Mohammed's death, she seemed to be doing really well. She said she is glad her son doesn't have to suffer anymore.

Mohammed is an emergency case that we brought out from the Gaza Strip on Tuesday. He is a little over a month old. Mohammed had to wait at the border in an ambulance on the Palestinian side for two hours before being released to the Israeli side. During the waiting period his mother would call me and tell me how sick he is and to please push him through security. I don't believe she truly understood how sick her son was and that he was dying right in front of her. Our newcomer Keleigh worked very hard to get permission for Mohammed and her hard work paid off. After waiting a few hours he crossed the border and was in an Israeli ambulance and the paramedic told me that he Mohammed almost died waiting at the border but that he was stable at the moment.

Arriving at the hospital Mohammed's mother was relieved to finally be there but anxious to see what would be the report of her son. Dr. Katz explained to her on Thursday that there was a possibility that her son would be inoperable because of his medical condition but they were going to give it a few days to see. She was very upset hearing this because this is her only son and she wants him to live and be normal. She said that it's in God's hands and he is very generous so if he wills for Mohammed to have surgery he will make a way. As tears were streaming down her face I looked at a helpless desperate mother. I called again to check up on her and found out that Dr. Tamir told her that Mohammed will have surgery tomorrow. The surgery is going to be very complicated so please keep Mohammed, his mother, and me in your prayers.
