Mohammed's Heart Surgery

Bright Eyes

In my brief visit to the ICU, Mohammed was watching my every move as I talked to his mother. Praise the Lord that he is making good progress and maybe will be out of the ICU in the next day or so. This is a definite answer to prayer as his life was in the balance a few days ago in the operating room.

Continue to uphold his dear mother and trust for complete healing for this little man.

First Meal Since Surgery

I dropped by the Wolfson ICU this morning and found Mohammed's mother feeding him with a syringe. It was his first food since he was extubated yesterday afternoon. He seemed hungry--you can see him beginning to sip the milk mixture.

His left foot is discoloured and his toes are quite black due to circulation difficulties. He is receiving Heparin IV to help him with this problem. ICU staff feel it will clear soon. Please pray for him and his mother, who is very tired but faithfully sits by his bed all day.

Still Intubated, But Stable

Mohammed's mother is under considerable stress and needs prayer to see her son improved and back in the ward, after his stay of nearly a week in the ICU. Mohammed is still intubated, and he is described by the ICU staff as "stable." His improvement is slow and uphill.

We have a God who answers prayer. Thank you for your part in seeing the Lord touch this little boy from Gaza.

Heart Is Bleeding Following Long Surgery

Posted on Tue, 02/10/2009 - 00:00 by Donna_Petrel

I visited with Mohammed Hamdan and his mother yesterday in the ICU, and found out that his surgery had gone well, but his heart was not functioning as it should. When I asked Dr. Cohen exactly what wasn't functioning, he explained that it was the heart itself, not a specific part of it. He informed me that Mohammed was in critical condition and that the next 48 hours would be crucial.

Today when I visited I found Mohammed's status was the same. He is on the huge heart-lung machine because his heart is bleeding. I had a chance to speak with the doctor monitoring the machine, and he said that everything had gone well during his long, complicated surgery until they removed him from the heart-lung machine. At that point the heart began to bleed, and so far it hasn't stopped, so Mohammed was put back on the machine to cause his heart to function for him.

There is nothing which they can do to make the bleeding stop, but they are hopeful that it will stop on its own. If that happens, Mohammed should be fine, as everything else post-surgically is good. His pressures are good, and his urine output is good. The doctors are all remaining hopeful, but the bleeding is a very big problem, and they say they think he'll be fine if it stops.

Therefore let us direct our prayers specifically to ask that God touch Mohammed's body to heal this point of bleeding in the heart. Pray for his worried mother too. She was not as emotional today as she was yesterday, but of course is intensely focused on and worried about her son. She knows that many people are praying for her son and for her, believing that God will act on behalf of Mohammed.

Long Day In Operating Room

Mohammed Hamdan came to the hospital last Wednesday. He was transferred to the ICU late this afternoon following a very long operation. When I had to leave his mother, she was very anxious as she had no news of why he was so long. This evening I called the ICU and was told he was now settled in the ICU after a complex operation, that his mother had seen him and all was well for the moment.

Please pray for this little boy from Gaza. There is need for careful monitoring and gradual progress and healing. Pray that his mother will be able to rest and that the Lord will touch them both.
