Can you imagine being a nineteen-year old mother with a child needing heart surgery in a foreign country? What would you feel? What fears, insecurities, and hopes would be harassing your mind and heart? I cannot know.

When the pediatrician in Kurdistan first noticed that Sima had a heart defect, he did not tell her young parents. He feared they would panic. When they eventually were notified, the opportunity for heart treatment in Israel was also soon presented.

Sima had her first battery of tests today at Wolfson Hospital, in a southern suburb of Tel Aviv. The tests today included an echocardiogram, vital signs, chest x-ray, blood work and EKG.
