Hugs and Tears as Dunya Leaves Jerusalem

Posted on Thu, 07/15/2010 - 07:44 by Michelle_Bradburn

How much we have to praise God for today! This morning we were able to send sweet Dunya and her older sister Jianne on their way home to Kurdistan. It's incredible how quickly Dunya was able to have surgury, and how quickly she healed. She was hardly here even a month, and now she's on the road with a new heart, and a smile in her eyes.

Last night was a beautiful evening as we all gathered together to rejoice with Dunya, to encourage her, and simply to enjoy her precious company one last time. Together we sang some Kurdish and Arabic worship songs, enjoyed tea and cake, and with love and prayers presented Dunya with some special gifts for her to take with home her. A warm homemade quilt, a flower, a CD of Kurdish worship songs, and most exciting of all a beautiful children's Bible in her own language....Kurdish. It was difficult communicating much as we didn't have a Kurdish translator, but as best we could in broken Kurdish, we told her how much we loved her and how much we thank Jesus for her healing.

There were many hugs and tears today, especially from Dunya's sister Jianne. As she hugged me tightly, and expressed such love and gratitute, she called me sister, and I thanked God to have spent these few weeks knowing these two new sisters! And I prayed God would continue to reveal His love to them as they leave this place.

This morning we gathered in the courtyard and prayed for them before they left, and continue still to pray that God would guard and guide this family safely home, surrounding them with his presence, and whispering his love every step of the way!

"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace" (Numbers 6:22-27).

Dunya had her final echo today and received word she will be going home to Iraq!

She will be discharged on some minor medication, but otherwise she is healthy and ready to go home. Praise God for her successful surgery and quick recovery.

Please pray for Dunya and her sister Zhian as they go back to Iraq this week to be with their families.

Dunya One Echo Away From Release

Posted on Mon, 07/05/2010 - 07:44 by Michelle_Bradburn

Dunya went in for a follow-up echo today, along with an ECG, and both of these procedures revealed her heart to be doing very well. The fluid that had been around her heart and lungs is now gone completely, which was a blessing to discover. The doctor lowered her medication and scheduled a follow-up echo for next Monday which, if everything looks good, will be her final echo!

It was another long day of waiting at the hospital for Dunya and the other children who came, but they all did very well and Dunya especially enjoyed our walk down to the back garden, where we were refreshed by the fresh air and beautiful flowers. Please pray that God would continue to bless and strengthen this precious girl as she awaits her release to go home.

Dunya Cheerful and Her Heart "Very Good"

Posted on Thu, 07/01/2010 - 07:44 by Michelle_Bradburn

Dunya was very cheerful going into the echo room today, and smiled all the way through as the doctor looked at her heart. When the doctor finished the echo she smiled and pronounced the results as "very good!" Dunya still has a slight build-up of fluid, but it's no worse than her previous echo, and the doctor said it was nothing to be concerned about. They've scheduled another echo for Dunya on Monday, to make sure the fluid hasn't increased at all.

It was a long day of waiting for her, but she was very patient considering. Pray that God will continue to strengthen this precious girl, healing her heart completely and resolving any complications. And pray also that in these days God would be revealing to Dunya how strong and tender is his love for her, for this little girl who so longs and fights for love and attention.

"And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Messiah..."
Ephesians 3:17-18

Dunya In and Out of Hospital

Posted on Wed, 06/30/2010 - 07:44 by Ellen_Husted

This morning, Dunya was complaining that she didnt sleep very well because of chest and abdominal pain. Upon assessment, her lower abdomen was distended and taunt. We took her to the hospital to be examined by the doctor, but during the ride to the hospital and the wait for the doctor, the pain and distention disappeared. She was released to go home, but we will be monitoring her in case her symptoms return. Pray that the pain does not return, and that she will heal quickly. Dunya has an echo tomorrow, and we will share more information about her condition then.

Dunya Released After Echo

Dunya was released from the hospital today! Her echo was not great, but was dischargeable; she has a bit of fluid around her heart in the lower lobe of her left lung. However, she was still able to come home, and for that, we are all grateful. Please pray that the fluid in her lung and around her heart will resolve; she has a follow-up echo on Thursday, so we will know more about her condition then. Please pray for Dunya, as the surgery has made her timid and nervous; pray that she will be given comfort and courage.

Dunya Breathing On Her Own

Dunya is doing well in the ICU the day after her surgery. She is now breathing on her own with the help of an oxygen mask. The doctors say that as of now things are right on course.

To Surgery With a Brave Smile

Posted on Tue, 06/22/2010 - 01:00 by Michelle_Bradburn

Thank you for all your prayers for this precious girl! Today she went into surgery with a brave smile on her face. Although an occasional shadow of fear would cross her eyes, she shone with peace and smiled so tenderly at me as I stroked her hair. At times in the past Dunya's strong and willful attitude has gotten her into trouble, but I was so proud of her today as her determinedly optimistic spirit and "rohsook" (joyfulness, in Kurdish) kept her giggling even when confronted with long needles, shots and intimidating metal instruments. She was a very, very brave girl today. And, praise God, Dunya is now stable in the ICU after a successful operation, and the doctors say she's doing very well!

Please continue to pray for Dunya as she recovers in the ICU, that as she sleeps she would be strengthened by a profound sense of God's peace and healing, and that she would know how he rejoices over her! Pray that God would be continually revealing his great love to both her and her sister during this time.

"The LORD your God is with you,
he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing."
-Zephaniah 3:17

Back on the Surgery Schedule

Posted on Mon, 06/21/2010 - 07:44 by Ellen_Husted

Dunya was admitted for surgery today! We had a false alarm last week, and we though she would have her surgery then, but now she will be having her operation tomorrow morning. She had to retake her admission vitals and an EKG, but she is all ready to have her surgery in the morning. As before, Dunya is nervous about the procedure, so please pray that she would not be fearful about the operation, and that everything would go smoothly. Also, pray for her sister Zhian, that she would have the encouragement and support she needs. Dunya and sister are Kurdish, and dont speak Arabic or Hebrew; so please pray that they would feel loved and be communicated with in a hospital where no one speaks their language.

Dunya Hospitalized for Surgery in the Morning

Posted on Mon, 06/14/2010 - 07:44 by Ellen_Husted

We had a pleasant surprise today! We took Dunya into the hospital today to get a PPD test (a skin test for tuberculosis) and she was admitted to the floor to have surgery in the morning! Needless to say, we are all very excited that Dunya is able to have her operation so soon. Praise God that she was able to be admitted so quickly. Please pray for Dunya. Today, you could tell that she was nervous about the idea of having open heart surgery in the morning.

Please pray she would be given a peace and a confidence in the doctors healing hands. Ask that God would remove the fear and anxiety, and give her a successful surgery tomorrow!
