Home To Gaza Four Days After Surgery

Posted on Mon, 02/16/2009 - 00:00 by Jonathan Miles

Friday morning came the surprise phone call from the nurses at the Wolfson Medical Center, saying that Soundes was well and ready to go back home to Gaza, amazingly just four days after her open-heart surgery.
By the time I made it there in the afternoon Soundes had already been pacing the hallway (above), waiting to go home to her family.

As we left the hospital the sun setting for the Sabbath lit up her face, somehow to me it seemed full of plucky faith in the new future which she has received.

Forty-five minutes later we were at the entrance to the Gaza Strip, the pastoral setting belying the recent intense fighting the area has seen.

Lets pray for Soundes as she grows into all the Lord has created her to be.

Already Eating, Playing, Laughing

Today's visit to Wolfson was another opportunity to see Soundes as she recuperates from her surgery. I went to see Havan first to deliver some items to his mother before I went to the ICU. However, before I could get to the ICU, Soundes was released from there and moved to the ward!

I was amazed at that, but even more amazed at how well she is doing. She was sitting up, eating, playing, and laughing. Praise to God!

Her mother is overflowing with joy and thanks as she sees and experiences the good results of her daughter's surgery. We can continue to thank God as we pray for Soundes and her mother during her healing process.

Extubated And Needing Comfort

Soundes was in the ward when I visited last week, and she was a pleasant and happy little girl during my brief visits to their room. Today I was able to visit her in the ICU after her surgery, and found her about to be extubated. She was resting peacefully, and the nurse attending her informed me that her surgery went well, and she was stable. They were giving her the medication typical before an extubation. I returned to the ICU later in the afternoon to find Soundes' mother with her, and rather flustered because Soundes was crying and unsettled after having been extubated. She was thirsty, but couldn't yet have water. Because she was crying I didn't try to take a picture after her extubation, but prayed quietly for her that she might be settled by God's comforting presence. Let us join our prayers for her continued healing, and that her mother might have peace in the process.

Her mother is grateful that her little girl will soon be fit and well agaiin. Please pray for complete heaaling for both Soundes and her mother, who is currently taking antibiotics . She is missing her two-week-old baby and so glad that the operation is tomorrow.

Fighting Chest Infection

Soundes is a little girl admitted for heart surgery early next week. Unfortunately both she and her mother have chest infections and have been ordered medication to ensure that Soundes is fit for surgery. Please pray for her mother who left her two-week-old son with her sister in Gaza and is grieving for him. Pray that mother and daughter will be completely well soon and their stay in Israel will be successful in every way.
